IDLED NINTENDO WORKERS FIRST TO GET NAFTA AID

Laid-off Nintendo of America workers are the first in the nation to qualify for federal help under the North American Free Trade Agreement.

The U.S. Labor Department ruling Friday covered 136 workers laid off by the video game maker on Jan. 11, 10 days after the agreement between the United States, Mexico and Canada was implemented.

Workers who lose their jobs when their employer moves operations to Mexico or Canada between Dec. 8, 1993 and Sept. 30, 1994, qualify for federal job-search and retraining services and extended unemployment benefits. - Associated Press
