Some folks say "Yuck!" to math, but not Lisa Doss, who minored in it in college. Math is this third-grade teacher's favorite subject to teach. "I think it's something that's very useful. You use it in every day life, such as in counting money or telling time."
Handwriting also is an important subject - one you definitely use in everyday life. Her nominator certainly knows that. "I think she should be nominated because she helped my brother and me with our handwriting. You couldn't even read my handwriting before she helped me!"
Doss said her favorite thing about teaching is simply working with children - especially if she'shaving a bad day. "I had a bad day the other week and they gave me a birthday card. It was very uplifting."
Doss is married and lives in Boones Mill, where she's taught at Boones Mill Elementary for seven years.
