PIONEERS HOLD OFF PATRIOTS

Patrick Henry outscored Heritage 43-38 in the final three quarters Monday in girls' basketball.

But the Pioneers won 57-45 on the strength of a 19-2 first quarter in the non-district contest at Patrick Henry.

The Patriots (0-14) closed to five points with two minutes remaining, but Heritage's Michelle Payne hit four straight free throws to ice the win.

Lawanda Robey led Heritage with 23 points and Michelle Payne added 16.

Atrice Webb paced the Patriots with 14 points and Elisha Jones had 13.

Roanoke Valley Christian 47\ Hargrave Military 17

CHATHAM - Susanne Slocomb scored 15 points, grabbed eight rebounds and had eight steals to lead the Eagles to a victory over the Tigers.

Roanoke Valley Christian (10-8) jumped out to a 20-6 halftime lead and never was threatened.
