Arcs, a coalition of community groups fighting Appalachian Power Co.'s proposed 765-kilovolt power line between Wyoming, W.Va., and Cloverdale, has received $11,000 from the Appalachian Community Fund of Knoxville, Tenn.
Jeff Janosko, chairman of Arcs, said the grant is the first received by his organization that can be used to pay legal expenses of the power-line fight.
Part of the grant, $4,500, will be used by Common Ground, an Arcs member organization from Monroe County, W.Va., to train citizens to testify against Apco before the West Virginia Public Service Commission, Janosko said.
The remainder will be used by power-line opponents in Craig County to pay lawyers.
Previous grants to Arcs include $25,000 from the Catholic Church's Campaign for Human Development and $4,000 from the Citizens Clearing House for Hazardous Waste.
