OBIT CHUMLEY, LAURA WOOLDRIDGE
CHUMLEY, Laura Wooldridge, 83, of Route 2, Hurt, died Monday, February 7,
1994 at her home. She was the wife of the late Clifford Carroll Chumley. Born
in Roanoke, August 28, 1910, she was a daughter of the late George Wingfield
Wooldridge and Margaret Greenway Wooldridge. She was a member of New Prospect
Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Penny Chumley. She is
survived by four sons, Carl Chumley and wife Delma, of Altavista, Ralph
Chumley and wife Mary, of Vinton, Ronnie Chumley of Hurt, and Billy Ray
Chumley and wife Karen, of Danville; eight daughters, Dalphine Bradner of
Rustburg, Kathryn Dodson and husband Walker of Danville, Doris Atkinson and
husband Bud, Lena Bennett and husband Kermit, Shirley Bailess and husband
Hester, Barbara Hall and husband Louis, Susan Crews and Chris Franklin, all of
Hurt; one sister, Ruth W. Dowdy of Tazewell; 34 grandchildren; and 24
great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday
in New Prospect Baptist Church by the Rev. Lenn Lloyd, the Rev. Robert Reese
and the Rev. Mark Lampley. Burial will be in the family cemetery. The family
will receive friends at Finch & Finch Funeral Home from 7 to 8:30 p.m.Tuesday
and other times at the residence. The family suggests that those wishing to
make memorials consider Altavista Life Saving Crew or Hurt Volunteer Fire
Department.
