Cooke declared the 3 1/2-year union void because Chalmers' divorce from her former husband was "falsely obtained" in the Dominican Republic in 1986.
Because of bigamy statutes "we are not legally married and never have been," Cooke, 81, said Tuesday.
Cooke said he plans to "return permanently" to his farm in Middleburg.
Charley Pride is lending his deep voice to those who want the state song changed from one associated with segregation to the singer's "Roll on Mississippi."
Pride was to perform at the Mississippi Capitol on Tuesday, which Gov. Kirk Fordice has declared Charley Pride Day.
The melody of "Go Mississippi" had been then-Gov. Ross Barnett's campaign tune in 1959. Barnett tried to block integration of the University of Mississippi in 1962, the year the Legislature adopted the song with new, innocuous words.

"It's Dave's mom, Dorothy," said a CBS spokeswoman in announcing the show's Olympic correspondent.
The talk-show host's mother will be filing daily, live reports from Lillehammer, Norway, during the taping of the show next week.
"You'll really get to know my mom then," the host told his audience Monday. "I think after those two weeks, a lot of questions about me will have been answered."
