PROGRAM GIVEN ON FEMALE POTTERS

The female potters of Ipetumodu, Nigeria, will be the subject of two presentations by potter Winifred Owens-Hart Thursday adn Friday.

Owens Hart will present a slide lecture on Ipetumodu pottery Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Blacksburg Police station meeting room. She will share stories and artifacts she acquired while living in Nigeria.

She will conduct a craft workshop, "Traditions: Potters of Ipetumodu," Friday at 9 a.m.-3 p.m., in Room 27 Owens Hall on the Virginia Tech campus. Workshop participants will construct pottery on the traditional Ipetumodu earthenware model.

Owens-Hart, a graduate of the Philadelphia College of Art and Howard University, is one of 10 artists presenting visual arts workshops throughout the state under a program of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. She has taught ceramics and sculpture at Howard University for over 15 years.
