NORTHSIDE DRILLS RADFORD 78-53

Northside made 60 percent of its first-half shots in building a 20-point halftime lead, and the Vikings coasted to 78-53 non-district boys' victory over visiting Radford on Wednesday.

Nathan Hungate put in 19 points, Sam Barrett added 18 and Justin Porterfield had 10 for Northside (16-2).

All 10 Vikings in uniform scored. Northside forced 24 Radford turnovers, including 16 in the first half.

C.C. Chapman's 16 points and Ryan Brittle's 12 led Radford.

\ Patrick Henry 68\ Heritage 57

LYNCHBURG - Shannon Taylor fired in 26 points as the Patriots beat the Pioneers in a non-district game.

Eugene Cook and Chris Combs scored 14 points apiece for Patrick Henry (12-4), which has won six of its past seven games. Taylor scored 21 points in the Patriots' win over Pulaski County on Tuesday night.

Patrick Henry led 19-12 after one quarter and never relinquished its lead. Calvin Thompson led Heritage (4-10) with 17 points.

\ William Byrd 57\ Lord Botetourt 39

The Terriers' man-to-man defense held the host Cavaliers in check to record a Blue Ridge District win.

Lord Botetourt (8-6, 2-5) turned the ball over only two times but hit only 17 of 44 field-goal attempts. The 39 points were the Cavaliers' lowest output this season.

Donald Childress led Byrd (9-6, 3-4) with 13 points, and Chris Childress added 11. The Terriers led 26-18 at halftime.

The Cavaliers were led by Jeff Cronise's 15 points.

\ Giles 76\ Galax 40

PEARISBURG - All nine Spartans scored as Giles cruised to a Mountain Empire District victory over the Maroon Tide.

Giles (9-7, 9-5), leading 21-14 at halftime, switched from a halfcourt zone defense to a full-court press in the third period. The result was a 55-26 advantage in the second half for the Spartans.

Mitch Reed led Giles with 12 points, and Patrick Steele and Anthony Myers scored 11 points apiece.

Jeff Ross led Galax (4-12, 4-10).
