PUBLIC SERVICE BOARD OKS NEW WATER LINE

Construction of a controversial water line to Elliston could begin as early as this month following action by the Montgomery County Public Service Authority on Monday.

The authority's resolution allowing the construction means the federal FarmersCQ Home Administration now can close a 40-year, $1.27 million loan to the PSA.

The balance of the $2.14 million project - which has been in the works for more than three years - is coming from an FmHA grant.

The federal agency is expected to close on the loan next week and work could begin later this month or early next, depending on the weather, said PSA director Gary Gibson.

The service authority also approved a resolution dealing with another 40-year loan, this one for $668,800, to pay for the expansion of the Shawsville Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The PSA board set a public hearing on the Shawsville project for 7 p.m. March 7.

Finally, the PSA board resolved to pass a comprehensive study of the county's water and wastewater systems onto the planning and economic development commissions.

Those bodies, along with the Board of Supervisors, are to study the document and find possible revisions to county regulations.

The resolution was important, Gibson said, because it will mean all elements of the county government will be communicating and working together to coordinate water and sewer issues.
