OBIT LONG, WALTER EDWARD
LONG, Walter Edward, 85, of Roanoke, died Tuesday, February 8, 1994, at
Camelot Hall Nursing Home in Salem. Mr. Long was born in Georgia, lived in
Florida for most of his life until 1946, when he moved to Washington D.C.
During his 40 years there, he worked as an independent contractor, mostly with
GSA. His last work for GSA was constructing the signs that appear in front of
all government buildings. He was preceded in death by his wife of more than 60
years, Marguerite Mae Long. Survivors include his only daughter and
son-in-law, Betty and Daniel Esau, Roanoke; two granddaughters, Cyndy Esau,
Roanoke, and Valerie Gibson, Richmond; one grandson, Brian Esau, Urbana, Ill.;
and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February
12, noon at the Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. Morris Beck of High Springs,
Fla. officiating. Interment will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. The Family
will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Lotz Salem Chapel.
