The Bulldogs are 14-3 overall and 13-2 in the district with three games remaining. Magna Vista is one game back in the league standings at 12-3 and the two teams meet Tuesday night on the Warriors' court.
Martinsville and Laurel Park (12-6, 11-4) were tied 32-32 at halftime. Then the Bulldogs outscored the Lancers 19-10 in the third period to take the lead for good.
Todd Johnson scored 13 and Carlos Martin and Manti Venable added 10 each for the Bulldogs, who were 8-of-8 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.
Laurel Park was led by Girard Foster with 18 points. Jamse Millner added 16 and Warrick Scott 10. \
Carroll County 63, George Wythe 52: At Hillsville, Center John Wolford scored 11 of his 17 points in the second half in rallying the Cavaliers (5-11) to a non-district victory over the Maroons. George Wythe led 36-28 at halftime, but Carroll County turned to a 2-3 zone defense to shut down the Maroons' inside game. The Cavaliers outscored George Wythe 35-16 in the second half. Forward Aaron Andrews led all scorers with 21 points for George Wythe. Jason Kilbourne put in 14 points and Brian Hawks added 10 for Carroll County. \
Bassett 71, Gretna 66: At Bassett, the Bengals sank 14 of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter to ice a Piedmont District win. Bassett led 51-44 after three quarters but Gretna kept the game close. In the final period, Art Wade went 4-for-4 on free throws and Steve Pilson hit four of five for Bassett (6-10, 6-8). With 21 points, Tyree Hairston was the leading scorer for the Bengals. Wade had 19 points and six assists, and Pilson scored 14 and grabbed 15 rebounds. Jason Tucker led Gretna with 20 points, William Merritt had 19 and Cory Boone chipped in 17. \
Honaker 100, Rural Retreat 69: At Rural Retreat, the Indians were done in by solid shooting from the Tigers in a non-district game. Honaker hit 31 of 51 shots (61 percent) and was 26-of-34 on free throws. Jason Compton led the Tigers with 31 points, and Matt McNulty added 16. Stephen Pratt led Rural Retreat (7-8) with 16 points. \
