CARJACKERS LEAVE VICTIMS, TAKE CLOTHES

A Portsmouth couple driving a man and woman to Hampton on Thursday were forced by their armed passenger to surrender their clothes and car in subfreezing sleet, police said.

The carjackers left the woman in her panties and the man nude, Hampton police Sgt. Donnie Moore said.

Moore said the episode began about 1 a.m. when the two befriended the Portsmouth couple outside a Newport News lounge.

The man and woman introduced themselves as Kevin and Pat, Moore said. The strangers rode in the back seat of the Portsmouth woman's car.

Along the way, Kevin placed a knife against the woman's throat and ordered the couple to turn down a dirt road, Moore said.

When the car stopped, Kevin forced the driver out and ordered him to disrobe. He then told the woman, who owned the car, to do the same, Moore said.

Moore said the victims were not familiar with the area and stood along the highway until a motorist saw them and called police.

A passerby said, "When I first saw the man and women . . . they were facing each other and hugging each other. I thought to myself, `My God, they're crazy' because it was about 20 degrees and sleeting."

He turned around, passed them again and realized they were "just trying to keep warm."
