OBIT DAVIS, BASIL CARR

DAVIS, Basil Carr, 69, of Route 1, Pembroke, died at his home Thursday, February 10, 1994 following a short illness. Mr. Davis was born in Narrows on November 13, 1924 and was a son of the late Perry Ervin Davis and Golda Blankenship Davis. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Narrows, a life member of the Giles Rescue Squad, past member of Narrows V.F.W. Post #6000 and a past member of the Narrows Rescue Squad. he was a veteran of World War II, and served in the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his mother, father and one grandchild. He was a retired member of the Hoechst-Celanese Corp. He is survived by his wife, Lorene (Brownie) F. Davis of Pembroke; three sons, Douglas K. Davis of Pembroke, Walter Steven Davis of Pembroke, Mark Eric Davis of El Paso, Texas; 10 living grandchildren; 1 deceased grandchild; three stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Givens Funeral Chapel, Pearisburg with the Rev. Eddie Kendall officiating with interment in the Rich Creek Cemetery, Rich Creek. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening from 6 to 8. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the New River Valley Hospice, 1806 Prices Ford Road, Blacksburg, Va. 24060.
