OBIT FLEMING, RUTH K.
FLEMING, Ruth K., 97, of Blacksburg, formerly of St. Marys, West Va., died
Wednesday, February 9, 1994. She was born in St. Marys, a daughter of the late
Edward and Ella Gist Sayre. She was preceded in death by her husband, former
West Virginia State Senator Dan B. Fleming. Surviving are her son, Dan B.
Fleming Jr. and daughter-in-law, Beverly, Blacksburg; son-in-law, Bradford G.
Young, S. Charleston, West Va. and four grandchildren, Katharine, Elizabeth
and Susan Fleming and Bradford D. Young. Mrs. Fleming was a 1914 graduate of
St. Marys High School, West Va. and attended the University of Cincinnati. She
was a former elementary teacher and was noted for her crafts work,
particularly in ceramics. She was a charter member and Past President of the
St. Marys Womens' Club, Past President of the Western District of the West VA
Womens' Club and served as State Chairman of the Womens' Club Library Service
Project and State Chairman of the Child Welfare Committee. Mrs. Fleming was
also an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy
Matron and organist of her local chapter and Grand Ruth at the state level.
She also was a charter member and Past President of the Pemberton Garden Club.
She was an active member of the Episcopal Church, teaching a Sunday School
class. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning, February 12, at the
Ruttencutter Funeral Home Chapel, St. Marys, West Va., with burial in the St.
Marys I.O.O.F. Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be
made to the Pleasants County Educational Trust Fund, 202 Fairview Drive, St.
Marys, West VA 26170. Local arrangements by McCoy Funeral Home, Blacksburg.
