OBIT LOTITO, TONY SR.
LOTITO, Tony Sr., 86, of 2012 Wythe Avenue, Bluefield, W.Va., died
Wednesday, February 9, 1994 in a Bluefield Hospital. Born in Bari, Italy, he
was the son of the late Steve Lotito and Marie Gargaro Lotito. He was a
charter member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bluefield where he was a
Deacon and taught the Men's Bible Class. He had been an area resident of
Bluefield since 1937. He was Football Coach of the Year in 1944, Basketball
Coach of the Year in 1945, J.C.'s Man of the Year 1946-47, a member of the
American Legion Post #9, Distinguished Citizen in 1945, member of Emory and
Henry College Sports Hall of Fame in 1973. He was a Charter Member of the
Bluefield Sports Hall of Fame. He was a Teacher and Coach at the following
schools: Buchanan County Mission School from 1930-32, Pocahontas High School
from 1933-37, Bluefield College, 1937-43, Beaver High School from 1943-46,
Fairview Jr. High School, 1968-73. He was the Recreation Director for the City
of Bluefield from 1947-67. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and
Dominick Lotito and one sister, Ann C. Lotito. Survivors include his wife,
Rena Peraldo Lotito of the home; one son, Tony (Dusky) Lotito Jr. of Pounding
Mill; one daughter, Mrs. John (Jeanne) Morris of Culloden, W.Va.; three
brothers, Crist Lotito of Pulaski, Frank Lotito of Mira Loma, Calif., Nick
Lotito of Pocahontas; two sisters, Katherine Barrett of Norfolk, Josephine
Wise of Pulaski; five grandchildren, Tony, Bill and Chris Morris, Marty and
Katie Lotito; two great-grandchildren, John and Brittany Morris. Funeral
services will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church
in Bluefield with Dr. W.D. Hasty officiating. Entombment will follow in
Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel in Bluewell, W.Va. Friends may call at
the Mercer Funeral Home in Bluefield today from 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial
contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or First
Presbyterian Church of Bluefield.
