`THE VICTORY GARDEN' VISITS IRELAND

The Irish consider gardens to be a feast for the eyes and the palate. So it is natural that new episodes of "The Victory Garden" that begin today on PBS (at 12:30 p.m. on WBRA-Channel 15) concentrate on some of the best-known ornamental and kitchen gardens in the Emerald Isle.

Now in its 19th year, the show is a garden magazine. Originated by the late Jim Crockett, the series has evolved, said producer John Pelrine. "Where once the emphasis was on vegetable gardening, it now includes all aspects of gardening from backyard plots to great gardens of the world."

The program features practical advice on growing vegetables and flowers, tours of famous gardens in the United States and abroad and cooking demonstrations using the produce grown.

This season, international gardening correspondent Peter Seabrook visits the vegetable patches of Cashel House Hotel in Connemara. Later, chef Marian Morash demonstrates her talent in creating a chowder with produce from the gardens and seaweed.

Another of the five new shows takes the viewer to the herb gardens of the famous Ballymaloe Cookery School near Cork.
