NAMES & CHANGES

Robertson heads alliance on health

THOMAS L. ROBERTSON, president of Carilion Health System in Roanoke, has been elected to a one-year term as chairman of the Sunhealth Alliance. The alliance is a group of not-for-profit hospital and health-care organizations comprised of 151 partner organizations from 15 states in the southeastern and south central U.S.

ACCOUNTING

ANDREA L. MUSCATELLO has joined McLeod & Co., a Roanoke certified public accounting firm. Muscatello was previously a senior tax manager with KPMG Peat Marwick in Roanoke. In addition to providing tax advisory services to individuals and businesses, she will be coordinating the firm's employee benefit administrative and consulting services.

BANKING

Central Fidelity Inc. has promoted several of its personnel to assistant vice presidents. They are SANDRA BLAKE, branch manager of U.S. 460 East office; PAMELA S. KARNES, branch manager of Vinton office; STANLEY E. STRICKLER, branch manager of West Salem office; and DEBORAH S. WRIGHT, branch manager of Towers shopping center office.

Appointed officers at the bank are JAMES E. HALL JR., regional retail credit officer for the southwestern region; ANNETTE IRENE SPARKS, branch manager of the University Mall office in Blacksburg; and BARBARA W. WHITE, human resource specialist for the southwestern region.

FINANCIAL

SUZN K. HEAD has been promoted to branch manager of Dean Witter Reynolds Inc.'s Roanoke office. Head, who has 17 years' experience in the investment industry, was formerly assistant branch manager. The previous manager, GEORGE D. PEOPLES, has been promoted to first vice president and branch manager of the Dean Witter office in Oklahoma City.

INSURANCE

ANGELICA D. LLOYD has been elected general counsel and corporate secretary for Shenandoah Life Insurance Co. Lloyd succeeds WILLIS M. "WICK" ANDERSON, who retired from the company Jan. 1. She was general attorney with Norfolk Southern Corp. before joining Shenandoah Life in 1990. Lloyd is a founding member and past chair of the Foundation for Roanoke Valley, and chairwoman of the United Way of Roanoke Valley.

The company also has appointed JOHN C. PEACE as attorney. He was vice president-finance and vice president-administration for Coast Electric Co. in San Diego, and a senior systems analyst for J. Morrisey & Co. in Hartford, Conn., before joining the Roanoke-based life insurance company.

MATERIALS

ROSS E. JEFFRIES has been named vice president-finance and administration and corporate treasurer at W.W. Boxley Co., producers of construction aggregate. Jeffries joined Boxley in 1978 as director of personnel services. He became vice president of operations in 1984 and has been vice president of corporate development since 1990.

MEDICINE

DR. CAREY W. ROBINSON, an ophthalmologist, joins DR. LEE HELMS at Eye Care and Surgery in Roanoke. Robinson will specialize in radial keratotomy and eyelid surgery in conjunction with routine eye health care. He comes from Alexandria, La., where was in the private practice of ophthalmology. He also performed medical mission work through the Mexican Indian Training Center in Cordoba, Mexico.

NONPROFITS

ANN MASTERS has been named executive director of the Clean Valley Council. She replaces ELLEN AIKEN who was with the council for four years. Masters is the former marketing and recruiting assistant for the Roanoke City Magnet Schools. She is also former curator/director of marketing and public relations for the Roanoke Museum of Fine Arts, now the Art Museum of Western Virgina.

Also, the council has appointed MARNI STINSON coordinator of the household hazardous waste collection day program. Stinson is a former director of the Clean Valley Council and was the editor of publications for the public relations and resource development office at Roanoke College. She worked with the first household hazardous waste project sponsored by the Junior League of Roanoke Valley in 1992.

\ F. COURTNEY HOGE of New York Life Insurance Co. has been named president of the E. Price Ripley Memorial Foundation, an educational, non-profit organization which awards scholarships to high school graduates in the Roanoke Valley. WILLIAM REICHELT, New England Life, has been named vice president of the foundation; INEZ T. RIPLEY, widow of E. Price Ripley, secretary; and GARY R. DUERK, Brown, Edwards & Co., treasurer.

Ripley worked for 54 years in the life insurance industry before his death in 1987.

ORGANIZATIONS

JOHN E. "JED" HAMMER III, president of Martin Brothers Contractors Inc. in Roanoke, was recently elected secretary of the Associated General Contractors of Virginia, a statewide construction trade association with more than 600 members. Hammer has been president of the Roanoke district AGC/VA and was on the state board of directors for two terms. He is a member of the board of directors of the 5th District Private Industry Council, the Roanoke YMCA, and the Roanoke Small Business Council.

PRINTING AND PACKAGING

LOU CALLEGARI has been named executive vice president of sales at the Hickory Printing Group in Hickory, N.C. in a recent restructuring of the organization. Also, AUBREY "BUZZ" PENDRY has been named senior vice president of sales. Hickory Printing acquired Stone Printing Co. in 1977 and maintains a sales office in Roanoke.
