ROANOKE VALLEY ECONOMIC INDICATORS

A strong December showing at Roanoke Regional Airport helped push total passenger boardings for 1993 about 1.5 percent higher than in 1992. Airline revenues rose significantly from the year of the fare wars.

Last year, the airport handled a total of 656,103 passengers and 15,266 tons of cargo, defined as air freight plus mail. Air freight rose by 23 percent last year.

The number of airline seats available on daily departures from Roanoke increased 22 percent last year, while the number of seats aboard jets rose 36 percent. The number of daily scheduled departures is 53, up from 45 flights in February.
