BANKRUPTCY COURT GETS EIGHT PETITIONS

Eight petitions with business connections have been filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Virginia in Roanoke:

Mountaineer Coal Co. Inc. of Coeburn filed for protection from creditors during reorganization. Stephen Halsey, president, estimated assets at more than $100,000 and liabilities at about $500,000.

Wolverine Coal Co. Inc. of Coeburn sought reorganization, listing assets at less than $50,000 and liabilities of about $500,000. Halsey is president of Wolverine, as well.

Lisa Lee Coal Co. of Raven, trading as R.J.&C. Coal Corp., asked for protection and reorganization. Donald L. Shelton, president, estimated assets at less than $50,000 and liabilities at more than $100,000.

Dennis Lee Dingus and Thelma Kathleen Dingus of Riner, who operate D&K Market, filed for liquidation, listing assets and liabilities of more than $100,000.

Phillip Andrew Prince, trading as The Ride and Stride Shop at Norton, asked for liquidation, reporting assets of $86,354 and liabilities of $125,882.

Scott Vincente Cook and Monica Branson Cook of Abingdon filed for liquidation. She is a self-employed court reporter. They reported assets of $13,500 and liabilities of $55,385.

Manuel J. Williams and Patricia Ann Williams of Roanoke filed for a wage earner plan for repayment of debts. She operated a cleaning business. They listed assets of $35,455 and liabilities of $23,553.

Dillard J. Murray II and Marcia Y. Murray of Bristol filed for a wage earner plan, listing assets of $50,300 and liabilities of $87,095. He said he is self-employed. - Staff report
