TERRIERS TOP EAGLES

William Fleming jumped in front early and held off Franklin County in the fourth quarter Monday to win a boys' Roanoke Valley District basketball game 90-78.

Forward William Fitzgerald and guard Keith Hampton provided a solid 1-2 scoring punch for the Colonels, combining for 53 points. Fitzgerald had 27 points and Hampton tossed in 26. Derrick Hines added 15 for Fleming (11-4).

The Colonels led by 22 points in the second quarter and bolted to a 46-30 halftime lead.

Franklin County rallied to trail by eight points in the fourth quarter but got no closer. Carlos Holland gunned in 29 points for the Eagles and Chad Foutz added 18 points. Each had four 3-point goals. \

Narrows 76

Auburn 73

RINER - Patrick Bailey scored 31 points, including 10 in the decisive fourth quarter, as the Green Wave edged the Eagles in a Mountain Empire District game.

Narrows overcame a five-point deficit and won the fourth quarter 22-14. Brian Pruitt had 19 points, Scott Vaught 11 and Scott Stafford 10 for the Green Wave.

Auburn got 25 points from Terry Millirons, but the Eagles had turnovers on two of their last three possessions. Bradley Hudgins added 17 points and John Reed had 15. \

Carroll County 52

Graham 46 BLUEFIELD - John Wolford scored 17 of his 25 points in the second half to lead the Cavaliers past the G-Men (11-4) in non-district action.

Graham led by two, 21-19 at halftime, and by as many as five throughout the third quarter. Wolford scored 11 in the fourth quarter to anchor Carroll County (6-11).

With 26 points, Jay Gray was the lone double-digit scorer for Graham.

Shawsville 42

SHAWSVILLE - Will Dodson scored 14 points to lead the Eagles to a Mountain Empire District victory over the winless Shawnees. Rocky Gap led by eight points at halftime and the Shawnees never got closer. Tommy Jones led Shawsville with 16 points. \
