OBIT COX, MAUDE CAROLINE BRIDGES

COX, Maude Caroline Bridges, 81, of Ceres, died Sunday, February 13, 1994, in the Smyth County Community Hospital. She was born in Bland County, the daughter of the late Jim and Laura Harner Bridges. She was preceded in death by her husband, Winton B. Cox, and a son, Gilmer B. Cox. She is survived by three daughters, Oma Lambert of Kernersville, N.C., Brenda Crabtree of Ceres, Va., Audrey Hedrick of Rural Retreat, Va.; four sons, Melvin M. Cox of Bland, Va., Wiley B. Cox of Albany, Ga., Bennie D. Cox of Ceres, Va., Larry W. Cox of Bland, Va.; three sisters, Mildred Mabry of Norfolk, Va., Opal Sadler of Bland, Va., Marie Cox of Ceres, Va.; 18 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 stepgrandchildren and 5 stepgreat-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 2 p.m., at the Newberry Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Ed Schaack and the Rev. June Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethany U.M.C. Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Newberry Funeral Home, Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. The family suggests that those prefer may make memorials to the Bland County Rescue Squad. Newberry Funeral Home in Bland, Va. is in charge of the arrangements.
