REPORTED EARNINGS

Dibrell Brothers Dibrell Brothers Inc., a Danville tobacco processor and importer and exporter of fresh flowers, on Tuesday reported second-quarter net income of $2.2 million, or 17 cents per share, compared with $9.5 million, or 63 cents, in the 1992 quarter. Sales declined 8.1 percent to $266.2 million from $289.6 million.

For the six months ended December 31, net income before the effect of two accounting changes was $6.5 million, or 49 cents per share, compared with $18 million, or $1.20 per share, for the 1992 period. Sales dropped 19.4 percent to $439.9 million from $545.9 million.

British Airways

British Airways, part owner of USAir Group, on Tuesday reported a third-quarter net profit of 55 million pounds sterling ($81 million), up 37.5 percent from the 1992 quarter. Operating profit was 97 million pounds ($144 million), up 38.6 percent from 70 million pounds. Group revenue rose 11.9 percent to 1.537 billion pounds ($2.274 billion) from 1.373 billion pounds in the 1992 quarter.

Net profit for the nine months was 255 million pounds ($377 million), compared with 222 million pounds for the 1992 period. Operating profit improved 31.6 percent to 441 million pounds ($653 million) from the previous year's 335 million pounds.

Earnings per American Depositary Share for the nine months were 2.56 pounds ($3.79).

Hanson PLC

Hanson PLC, the British owner of MW Manufacturing Inc. of Rocky Mount, maker of windows and patio doors, on Tuesday reported a first-quarter profit of $256 million, or 18.5 cents per share, on sales of $4.27 billion, compared with profit of $349 million, or 26 cents per share, on sales of $3.4 billion in the year-earlier quarter. Net income was $186 million, compared with $253 million.
