DRIVER KILLED AFTER CAR STRIKES TREE

A Patrick County man died Monday afternoon after his car hit a tree in Henry County.

Clinton S. Spencer, 49, was driving on Virginia 627 near the Patrick County border when he lost control of his car while going around a curve, State Police said. Spencer veered off the left shoulder and hit a tree.

Spencer was taken to Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and died two hours later, police said.

Police said Spencer was not wearing a seatbelt.
