W.VA. MAN IS CHARGED WITH ABDUCTION, SHOOTING

A 25-year-old West Virginia man was charged with kidnapping a girl and shooting at police after a crash ended a two-state chase in Carroll County late Monday night.

The pickup truck driven by Gregory Lee Plummley of Crab Orchard, W.Va., turned over several times when he went off the road. Plummley broke both legs in the crash and suffered severe facial injuries.

State Police Capt. Larry Bowman said the pursuit started in Charlotte, N.C., where Plummley is charged with shooting a trailer park resident and abducting the man's 16-year-old girlfriend, with whom Plummley had had a previous relationship.

During the pursuit, two North Carolina police cruisers were hit by gunfire and disabled.

As Virginia troopers positioned themselves along Interstate 81 in Carroll County, Plummley pushed the girl out of the moving truck. She was taken to Twin County Community Hospital in Galax, where she was in stable condition.

After Plummley's truck crashed, he was taken to a hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C.
