In a letter to the board, Poff, who could not be reached for comment, wrote that "she did not feel she had the time to be as conscientious a board member as she would like to be," board President Steve Davidson said.
"She will be sorely missed," he said. "She was a tremendous asset."
Poff is the third board member to resign in three months. Board member Bonnie Bradshaw tendered her resignation this month. She said last week that she resigned for personal reasons.
"I had been considering it for a long time," Bradshaw said. "My family was requiring more time than I thought I had to give to the SPCA."
Bradshaw's husband, John, resigned shortly after being elected to the board in December.
A faction of the SPCA's membership called last week for some board members, including Davidson, to resign. The call was prompted by last week's firing and layoff of three employees of the animal shelter.
Poff was not among those board members who had been asked to step down.
