Through Saturday, law enforcement officials are emphasizing using child restraint seats for small children and buckling older children in seat belts.
State law requires that all children under age 4 be secured in an approved child safety seat before riding in an automobile. Violating the law carries a $50 fine.
In Radford last year, police wrote summonses for 30 child safety seat violations, said Sgt. Gary Harmon.
Free child safety seats are available for those who cannot afford to buy them from the Department of Motor Vehicles Transportation Safety Program. Application forms may be obtained at the Radford Police Department.
