VDOT SECRETARY SPEAKS AT TECH

Virginia Department of Transportation Secretary Robert Martinez will discuss transportation issues and their impact on economic development Friday at Virginia Tech. Martinez will address a National Engineers' Week breakfast hosted by the College of Engineering and the New Century Council.

The newly appointed transportation chief has said he believes economic development depends on efficient transportation. Before being named to his current post by Gov. George Allen, Martinez was manager of strategic planning for Norfolk Southern Corporation. He also served in the U.S. Department of Transportation during the Bush administration.

A conference on Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems also is set for Friday at Virginia Tech.
