EX-TREASURER ADMITS TAX EVASION, OBSTRUCTION

Former U.S. Treasurer Catalina Vasquez Villalpando pleaded guilty Thursday to tax evasion, obstruction of justice and conspiring to hide income from a former employer.

Villalpando admitted evading more than $47,000 in federal income taxes and obstructing an investigation of the Reagan-era influence-peddling scandal at the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Villalpando faces a maximum five-year prison term and $250,000 fine on each count.
