PERKINS' STEAL SECURES VICTORY FOR GREEN WAVE

Norman Perkins made a steal with 6 seconds remaining and two free throws with 4 seconds left to lift Narrows to a 70-66 victory over Floyd County on Thursday in the Mountain Empire District.

Floyd County (15-3 overall, 14-3 district), had the ball and trailed 68-66 before Perkins made his clutch steal.

Patrick Bailey led Narrows (9-10, 9-8) with 19 points, and Bryan Pruett added 17. Scott Vaught scored 10, and Brett Mosley tallied 10.

Brian Harmon led Floyd County with 17 points. Jason Light chipped in 13, and Phillip Marshall scored 11.

The Green Wave led by two points after the first quarter and led 35-29 at halftime. Floyd County then pulled within one after three periods and remained close until the end. \

Galax 50

RINER - Terry Millirons became the seventh boys player in Auburn history to score 1,000 career points as the Eagles clawed the Maroon Tide in the Mountain Empire District.

Millirons, a 6-foot-3 junior forward, is a three-year starter for Auburn and is averaging 20 points per game this season. The all-time Eagles record is held by Lowell Reed, who scored 1,628 points from 1962-66.

Millirons scored his 1,000th point on an assist from John Lytton with 3:02 left in the first quarter. He now has 1,018 career points.

Auburn (12-7, 11-6) grabbed a 20-8 lead after the first quarter and sealed the victory with a 21-4 third quarter. Randy Bonds added 10 for the Eagles.

Ken Houtz led Galax with 11 points.

Auburn outrebounded Galax 42-27. \
