GETTING RID OF DOWNED TREES AND LIMBS

Many New River Valley residents will spend the weekend cleaning up downed trees and limbs from their property. Here's what to do in communities throughout the valley:

\ MONTGOMERY COUNTY

BLACKSBURG: Stack brush close to curb. Residents do not need to call the Public Works Department. All brush will be collected over the next several weeks.

CHRISTIANSBURG: Leave brush at curbside. Do not call the town. Crews will pick up debris until the job is done.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY: Bring brush to the county landfill off U.S. 460 across from Corning where it will be ground into mulch. Vehicles should have a Montgomery County sticker. The landfill is open Monday-Saturday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m. The dumping fee is $38 per ton.

\ RADFORD

RADFORD: Separate tree limbs and brush and place at curbside for pickup.

PULASKI COUNTY

DUBLIN: Bring brush to the Lions Club Recreation Area, across from Dublin Elementary School, on Saturday only, Feb. 19 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Brush is being picked up at curbside as town crews can get to it.

PULASKI, town and county: Bring brush to Loving Field or the landfill site on Ingles Mountain, Saturday, Feb. 19 8 a.m.-4 p.m. There will be no charge at the landfill for brush disposal on Saturday or for brush from the storm during regular hours Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4 p.m.

\ GILES COUNTY

GILES COUNTY: Bring brush to the convenience center off U.S. 460 on Virginia 635, left on Virginia 626. Brush is stored, then chipped into mulch. The hours are Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Saturday, 10-3 p.m.

FLOYD COUNTY

FLOYD, town and county: The landfill and the recycling center in Floyd County do not accept brush or tree debris.

Note: The green boxes in New River Valley counties cannot accommodate brush or tree limbs because they damage the trash trucks. Please do not place storm tree debris in any dumpsters.
