'DEADLY GROUND' ISN'T A GOOD START FOR SEAGAL AS A DIRECTOR

In his previous martial arts movies, Steven Seagal has proved that he's no better than his director.

With someone as talented as Andrew Davis at the helm, his last film, "Under Seige," was terrific. For "On Deadly Ground," Seagal decided to make his producer-director debut, so he has no one to blame but himself. This one is just a mess; an unintentional comdey punctuated by dark, poorly staged fight scenes and with a weird, but apparently sincere conspiratorial coda tacked onto the end.
