LOOK FOR `MACGYVER' MOVIE IN MAY

Q: I'm still waiting for Richard Dean Anderson's return in the promised "MacGyver" movie. I saw a segment on the filming of the movie on "Entertainment Tonight" last fall. What gives? - E.B., Dallas.

Q: I have a question that is driving me absolutely crazy. Some time ago, I read about an upcoming miniseries that was to be based on Stephen King's wonderful novel, "The Stand." I watched carefully for the airing of this series, but it was never shown. Can you find out and let me know why this anxiously anticipated event never materialized? - S.S.J., Iowa City, Iowa

A: MacGyver and Stephen King fans take heart. ABC is saving both these potential blockbusters for the May "sweeps" period. You can be sure both "The Stand" and the "MacGyver" movie will be well publicized before they air.

Q: I think Jasmine Guy is so talented. Why haven't we seen her since "A Different World"? Does she have any movies or series coming up? - D.D., Dallas.

A: Since "A Different World" ended last year, Guy has made a failed TV comedy pilot ("Boy Meets Girl") and co-starred in the Alex Haley miniseries "Queen." She's part of the all-star female cast of "A Century of Women," a six-hour documentary-drama that is scheduled to premiere on cable Superstation TBS in June.

Q: I recently saw the movie "Bandit." It featured an actor named Brian Bloom. Can you tell me more about him? - C.P., Kissimmee, Fla.

A: Brian Bloom plays free-wheeling trucker Bandit in new syndicated TV movie series inspired by the "Smokey and the Bandit" feature films. Bloom, 23, won a Daytime Emmy Award at the age of 16 for for his role as Dusty on "As the World Turns." He's from Long Island, N.Y., and made his acting debut in "Once Upon a Time in America." He also appeared in the summer TV series "2000 Malibu Road" in 1992. Look for the second "Bandit" movie in March.

Q: I have been watching "The Young and the Restless" for more than 12 years. Eric Braeden hasn't seemed to age one bit. What I want to know is how old is he? - M.E., Omaha, Texas.

A: Braeden (Victor Newman on "Y&R" since 1980) is 49 years old. Originally named Hans Gudegast, the German-born actor came to the United States in the 1960s and starred in "Combat" as Capt. Dietrich.

Q: I am a big fan of the series "Sisters." Please tell me if Sela Ward is married and, if so, to whom? - J.D., Tulsa, Okla.

A: Ward is married to businessman Howard Sherman, They announced last month they are expecting a baby.

Q: What happened to "The Larry Sanders Show" on HBO? They have been showing repeats for a couple of months with no explanation. Are any new shows planned and when will they air? - E.G., Arlington, Texas.

A: Garry Shandling returns in a new season of "Larry Sanders" episodes starting in June. He hosts the Grammy Awards on March 1 on CBS.

Q: Elaine Joyce has been appearing on "The Young and the Restless." Please, what did she do before on TV? - L.G., Phoenix, Ariz.

A: A lot. Her TV work spans nearly three decades. She's done everything from "The Andy Griffith Show" (a 1967 episode entitled "Helen the Authoress") to "Hawaii Five-0," "Love Boat" and "Murder, She Wrote." She hosted a syndicated version of "The Dating Game" in 1986-87.

Q: Please tell me something about David Letterman. How old is he? Is he married? Any children? I enjoy his show. My cat watches him, too. - M.B., Cochran, Ga.

A: Letterman turns 47 on April 12. He's from Indianapolis, Ind., and attended Ball State University. He got his professional start as a weatherman and talk show host on an Indianapolis TV station. He moved to L.A. in the mid-'70s to try stand-up comedy. It was his daytime "David Letterman Show" in 1980 that caught everyone's attention and led to the start of "Late Night" in 1982. His well-publicized move to CBS last year for $14 million has made him king of late-night talk. Letterman is single and has no children.

Q: We have a minor dispute in our house concerning Erik Estrada. One of us claims that he was killed in a motorcycle accident and the other disagrees and insists that he is alive. - D.D., Norristown, Penn.

A: The former "CHiPs" star is alive and kicking, in Spanish now. He's a big hit again in the popular Latin "novela," "Dos Mujeres, Un Camino" on the Univision network.
