Jackson, the Hokies' No. 2 scorer this season, spent Friday and Saturday in a Blacksburg hospital and has been diagnosed with a herniated disk, the school announced.
The injury will be treated with injections of anti-inflammatory medication and painkillers. No surgery is planned.
If the pain subsides, Jackson can play; if it doesn't, he can't. Tech has a week off before its next game, Feb. 26 at Cassell Coliseum against North Carolina-Charlotte.
Jackson, a sophomore forward, was averaging 12.1 points per game, but has scored only 16 in his past four games. He had been playing with back pain for some time, but it intensified this week.

The Keydets finished fourth in the team standings. Appalachian State edged Western Carolina 105-98 for the title.
In Radford, Washington and Lee remained in first place through two days of the three-day Atlantic States/Old Dominion Athletic Conference women's swimming championships.
