SEASON ENDS FOR 2 VOLLEYBALL TEAMS

Blacksburg and Carroll County fell in the semifinals of the Region IV volleyball tournament at Blacksburg High School.

Blacksburg (16-3) lost to Gate City 13-15, 15-4, 16-14 in a match that took almost 1 1/2 hours. The Blue Devils won the last four points of the third game to advance.

Carroll County (12-7) put up a fight before falling to Abingdon 15-10, 15-12. The Cavaliers had reached their semifinal by routing Tazewell 15-0, 15-3 in the opening round.

Abingdon (24-0) went on to claim the regional title 15-11, 15-8 over Gate City (14-5). Both finalists move on to next week's Group AA tournament.
