Cave Spring 68\ Franklin County 66

Matt Matheny scored 11 of his game-high 28 points in the fourth quarter, then scored all of Cave Spring's points in overtime as the Knights slipped past the Eagles in a Roanoke Valley District game.

Matheny scored on a layup as time expired in the extra period.

Cave Spring (10-9, 5-3) trailed 51-38 after three quarters, but Knights outscored the Eagles 26-13 in the fourth period.

Franklin County was 2-for-7 on free throws in overtime. Carlos Holland led the Eagles (8-12, 2-6) with 20 points, and Chad Foutz added 19.

\ Glenvar 98\ Highland 46

MONTEREY - James Williams, in only his second varsity game, scored 22 points and Mike Phillips added 18 as the Highlanders rolled over the Rams in a Pioneer District game.

Williams was called up from the junior varsity last week.

Glenvar (12-5, 10-2) took a 23-7 lead after one quarter and led 45-17 at halftime. Jason Anderson added 14 points for the Highlanders.

John Hull led the Rams with 16 points.

\ Roanoke Valley Christian 84\ Timberlake Christian 64

Richard Booth six first-quarter points and Billy Fluker scored 10 of his 12 in the first half as the host Eagles (10-13, 8-6) took command early in winning the Virginia Independent Conference game over Timberlake Christian (6-12, 2-12).

Scott Apjok's 18 points and 13 rebounds led RVC, which wrapped up the No. 3 seeding for the conference tournament that starts Thursday. Booth and Josh MacDermod also had 12 points each, and Joe Surkamer had 11 for the Eagles, who hit 50 percent of their shots and led throughout the game. Phil Wegner had 13 rebounds, and MacDermod had seven assists.

Timberlake Christian (6-12, 2-12) was led by Jon Phillips' 20 points, Brian Fitzgerald's 14 and Bart Hogge's 13.

\ Liberty 89\ Nelson County 42

LOVINGSTON - The Minutemen outscored the Governors 32-11 in the second quarter en route to a Seminole District win.

David Ross led Liberty (14-4, 14-4) with 14 points and Greg Reynolds added 12. Nelson County (4-14, 4-14) trailed 12-10 after the first period, but the Minutemen broke the game open with the big second period.

Chad Loving led the Governors with 13 points.

\ St. Vincent's 75\ Roanoke Catholic 73

PETERSBURG - Matt Baird scored 26 points and Justin Johnson added 18 as the Celtics fell in the opening round of the State Catholic Tournament.

Baird scored on a stickback off a missed St. Vincent's free throw with 11 seconds remaining for the winning margin.

Roanoke Catholic (8-14), which was led by Jemarh Patterson's 21 points, was 16-of-29 on free throws.

\ Buckingham 82\ Staunton River 53

MONETA - The Golden Eagles, coming off an emotional win over Seminole District rival Liberty on Friday night, got a harsh wake-up call from the Knights in a district matchup.

Freddie Jackson scored 19 points and Lewis Jones added 18 as Buckingham (9-10, 9-10) used a 21-9 third period to pull away from Staunton River (11-7, 11-7).

Cornelius Foxx led the Golden Eagles with 20 points.
