Wendy Hartwig, a forward/midfielder from Ridgewood, N.J., was a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-American her junior year and a two-time Parade All-American. Dina Padula, a midfielder from Potomac, Md., was named the nation's top midfielder by Parade. Jennifer Rawlings, a midfielder from Fayetteville, Ga., also was a Parade All-American. Kathrin Zeman, a back from East Northport, N.Y., was an NSCAA All-American.
In Lexington, VMI (2-1) took a six-run lead into the ninth inning, then held on for a 10-9 victory over Georgetown (0-1) in baseball action at Patchin Field.
The Keydets scored three times in the sixth inning to take a 6-3 lead when Dave Sullivan came home on Louie Napoleon's double and Ryan Glynn followed with a two-run homer to left field. VMI added one run in the seventh and three in the eighth.
In Davidson, N.C., Washington and Lee finished second and VMI was eighth at the Southern States Men's Swimming and Diving Championships. The College of Charleston was the winner with 621 points. The Generals scored 517.5 points and the Keydets had 309.
In Radford, Rebekah Prince broke her own school record in the 200-yard backstroke (2 minutes, 8.38 seconds) to lead Washington and Lee to its first title since 1991 at the Atlantic States/Old Dominion Athletic Conference Swimming Championships.
In Harrisonburg, the James Madison women's fencing team won its seventh consecutive state championship Saturday. The Dukes finished with 39 points. Hollins was second with 26.
