More than 100 coats were donated to Coats for Kids, a special project started in 1987 by the Radford Clothing Bank. Each coat was cleaned for free by Cooks Clean Center. Project chairwoman Sue Swindell of Radford said everything went very smoothly.

Radford City and Riverlawn elementary schools were contacted by Swindell for number of coats, approximate sizes and whether for a boy or girl. With assistance from Jean Rockwell and Lura cq Alice Robertson, also both of Radford, Swindell sorted the coats, and the three women delivered them to McHarg, Belle Heth, Dalton Intermediate and Riverlawn elementary schools. Coats were also given to 30 Headstart children and their siblings.

Swindell said Rockwell and Robertson were just wonderful to work with, "the kind of people you just give something to do and never look back.''
