TELEVISION TECHNICIAN ELECTROCUTED IN VAN

A television technician on assignment for CNN was electrocuted Tuesday while in a broadcast van outside the Alexandria courthouse.

Al Battle, 37, was part of a two-man technical crew from Potomac Television Services Corp., which provides technical services to CNN, network spokeswoman Paige Prill said.

Mark Wilson, a free-lance news photographer on assignment for The Associated Press, said Battle was inside the van raising the antenna mast to begin transmission when the microwave dish hit a high-voltage wire.

Battle was at the U.S. District courthouse on a story about a CIA official and his wife who were charged with spying for the former Soviet Union. - Associated Press
