EX-FERTILITY SPECIALIST BEGINS PRISON TERM

Cecil Jacobson, the fertility doctor convicted of fraud for using his own sperm to impregnate patients, has begun serving a five-year prison sentence.

Jacobson, 57, entered a federal prison in Colorado on Friday to begin serving the sentence imposed nearly two years ago. Jacobson was convicted in Alexandria federal court of deceiving patients who came to him for help with infertility.

Jacobson reported to the federal prison camp in Florence, Colo., after a federal judge ruled he could not remain free on bond because nearly all his appeals are exhausted.

Jacobson practiced in Northern Virginia from 1976 to 1988. Prosecutors said he may have fathered as many as 70 children. - Associated Press
