ILLNESS DOESN'T STOP CONGRESSMAN'S STREAK

Rep. William Natcher, the 84-year-old chairman of the House Appropriation Committee, checked out of a hospital and arrived at Congress in a wheelchair Wednesday to continue his unbroken voting record.

Since Natcher came to the House in January 1954 he has never missed a floor vote.

By the end of the day Wednesday, after Natcher cast three votes, his record of consecutive votes was up to 18,394, his office said.

Over the past month, Natcher has been in and out of Bethesda Naval Hospital. His office has said he is suffering from exhaustion. - Associated Press
