AMHERST CO. RALLY DOOMS STAUNTON RIVER

Amherst County rallied in the fourth quarter to knock off Staunton River 49-41 Wednesday in the quarterfinals of the Seminole District high school basketball tournament at Liberty University's Vines Center.

Scott Christian scored eight of his 13 points in the fourth period as Amherst County outscored Staunton River 16-3 to notch the come-from-behind victory. Camm Jackson made five of seven free-throw attempts in the fourth quarter for the Lancers.

Staunton River (11-8) won every quarter but the fourth and led 38-33 after three periods. \

CHRISTIANSBURG - Patrick Steele scored 17 points and John King added 10 as the Spartans edged the Green Wave in a Mountain Empire District quarterfinal game.

Giles (13-8), the fourth seed, advanced to Friday's semifinals against top-seeded Grayson County. The Spartans have won 10 of their last 11 games.

Narrows (10-11), which had won five straight, trailed 54-50 with 1.5 seconds remaining before Patrick Bailey nailed one of his six 3-pointers. He finished with a game-high 27 points. \

CHRISTIANSBURG - Terry Millirons and Jon Reed combined for 47 points as the Eagles beat the Rockets in a Mountain Empire District tournament quarterfinal game.

Millirons finished with 27 points and Reed scored 21 as Auburn (14-7) led 56-40 after three quarters.

Bland (10-12) battled back and cut the deficit to five points with 1 minute, 30 seconds remaining, but got no closer.

Auburn, the third seed, plays No. 2 Floyd County Friday in the semifinals.
