Bell Atlantic Corp. held a news teleconference Thursday, using a special 800 number for reporters to call to question company officials about the collapse of a proposed merger with Tele-Communications Inc.
But some who called got a busy signal. Others heard a recorded message advising them either to stay on the line for an operator, who never materialized, or to punch a special access code, which was never given.
Eventually the problem was fixed. But in the middle of the teleconference, James Cullen, president of Bell Atlantic, was disconnected.
