HOKIES PLAY AT 3 SATURDAY

Virginia Tech's men's basketball team plays UNC Charlotte at 3 p.m. Saturday at Cassell Coliseum.

Tickets and other literature showing the game time as 1 p.m. were printed before the time was changed last fall to accommodate television.

The Metro Conference game is the second half of a Raycom Sports doubleheader and will be shown locally on WSLS (Channel 10).

In other Virginia Tech news:

Virginia Tech's coffers received a $10,000 boost Thursday in honor of Hokies volleyball player Lisa Pikalek, Virginia's NCAA Women of the Year. Pikalek, a four-time All-Metro Conference player who led Tech's volleyball team from 1989-92, was an NCAA Woman of the Year top 10 finalist for 1993. She earned the school $5,000 for being the state winner and $5,000 for being a finalist.

The award, presented by Champion Products Inc., a division of Sara Lee Corporation, honors women student-athletes for academics, athletics, community service and leadership. The program recognizes female athletes at college, state and national levels and includes all 16 NCAA women's sports. Seniors who have completed their NCAA eligibility qualify.

For the second consecutive year, Virginia Tech will be host to the Metro Conference Indoor Track Championships today and Saturday at Rector Field House in Blacksburg.

The Hokies are favored to defend their 1993 men's title. In a close women's competition, defending champion Virginia Commonwealth is expected to be challenged by South Florida and Virginia Tech.

Competition today runs from 1 p.m. to 7:30. Saturday's events start at 11 a.m., and awards will be presented at 3:30 p.m. Admission is free.
