AMBULANCE BECOMES NIGHTMARE ROLLER COASTER

The driver of a Carilion Transportation Service ambulance experienced a real-life nightmare Friday.

Traveling north on Jefferson Street at 2:45 p.m., the ambulance lost its brakes at the top of the hill near Community Hospital, according to Roanoke police.

The driver, Linda Dillon, 33, managed to steer the vehicle toward a parking lot at the hospital, where it hit a small brick retaining wall, went airborne and landed in a lower parking lot, police said.

Dillon, an employee of the hospital, was not injured and no patient was in the ambulance at the time, police said.

The ambulance was demolished in the crash and three other vehicles were damaged by flying bricks.
