Administration executives from the league's 10 basketball-playing schools met but apparently did not decide whether to accept Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Temple and Rutgers as all-sports members.
A non-decision was not a complete surprise, however, because presidents of some schools were unable to attend.
"After much discussion, the [chief executive officers] concluded it would be appropriate to return to their respective campuses to further study the issue," read a statement issued by the Big East. "The CEOs will meet again in the near future and have agreed not to comment further."
