OBIT GODSEY, MARY PHELPS

GODSEY, Mary Phelps, 86, of Roanoke, died Friday, February 25, 1994. She was a resident in the Autumn Care Nursing Home in Altavista and was the widow of Carl Cecil Godsey. She was born September 27, 1907, in Alberene, Va. a daughter of the late James M. Phelps and Annie Elsom Phelps. She was a member of South Roanoke United Methodist Church and served on the staff of that church for many years before retiring in 1972. Surviving are four children and their spouses, Lt. Col. James P. and Ramona Godsey, New Castle, Carma and Charles Fauntleroy, Altavista, Marcia and Bruce Mahon, Jupiter, Fla., Sharon and John Borgogni, Arlington; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be conducted in Evergreen Burial Park (Roanoke), 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Edward J. Taylor Jr. officiating. The family suggests memorials be made to South Roanoke United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday.
