OBIT HATFIELD, CECIL CURTIS, DR.

HATFIELD, Cecil Curtis, Dr., 85, of Saltville, died Thursday, February 24, 1994, at his home. Dr. Hatfield was a graduate of Roanoke College and the Medical College of Virginia. He practiced medicine in Smyth County for over 50 years and received the Medical Society of Virginia Award For Outstanding Community Service by a Physician in 1980. Dr. Hatfield was on the Board of Directors of The First National Bank of Saltville for 44 years and served as Chairman for 30 years. He was a member of the McCready United Methodist Church. He was active in the Boy Scouts for many years and received the Silver Beaver Award for his service. He was one of the founders and a Charter Member of the Saltville Rescue Squad. Dr. Hatfield served many years on the Board of Directors of the Virginia YMCA. He was a Charter Member of the Kawians Club of Saltville, a member of the William King Masonic Lodge #227. He served many other organizations over the years. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Laura Margaret (Horne) Hatfield; one son, Mr. James A. Hatfield, Kingsport, Tenn.; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Melinda Hatfield, Kingsport, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Andy and Susan Hatfield, Kingsport, Tenn. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, February 27, 1994 in the D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel. Masonic graveside services will follow in the Osborne Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday evening at Henderson's Funeral Home in Saltville. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saltville Rescue Squad.
