GATEWAY CHRISTIAN FALLS IN TITLE GAME

Paul Whetzel scored 26 points, including three 3-pointers, as defending champion Heritage of Woodbridge defeated Gateway Christian 59-43 in the championship game of the Old Dominion Association of Christian Schools on Saturday night.

Heritage (15-2) led 15-4 after the first quarter but the Crusaders fought their way back to tie the score at 32-32 in the third period. Heritage outscored Gateway Christian 18-9 in the final quarter to seal the victory.

Monte Pence scored 12 points for the Crusaders (7-6). Jay Perfater and Aaron Meadows had 10 points each and Ryan Gordon grabbed 12 rebounds. \
