Hill, the senior swingman who was a member of NCAA championship teams in 1991 and 1992, finished with 13 points, but it was the other facets of his game that helped second-ranked Duke (21-3) win its fourth consecutive game.
Hill's first field goal of the second half was a 3-pointer with 11 minutes, 44 seconds left that gave the Blue Devils a 43-34 lead. He only had one more field goal and two more free throws, but he blocked a shot by Rick Brunson with 2:40 left and his bullet pass to Cherokee Parks for a dunk as the shot clock ran out with 1:44 to play gave Duke a 54-45 lead.
No. 8 Temple (20-6), which closed its regular season with consecutive losses, struggled from the outside against Duke's man-to-man defense.
The Owls' big three - Aaron McKie, Brunson and Eddie Jones - went 1-for-18 from 3-point range.
Hill became the eighth player in Duke basketball history to have his number retired, joining former teammates Christian Laettner and Bobby Hurley, as well as Dick Groat, Art Heyman, Mike Gminski, Johnny Dawkins and Danny Ferry.
