"To Kill a Mockingbird," playing through March 18 at Mill Mountain Theatre in Center in the Square, is the story of a young girl's childhood in a racially tense Alabama town in the 1930s. Written by Harper Lee in 1957, it is considered a classic and a story of human decency and courage.

The story is told by a young girl named Scout Finch. In the Mill Mountain production, she is being played by Chandler Brooke Givens, a pupil at Andrew Lewis Middle School. Scout's brother, Jem, is being played by Brian X. Conlan, also a pupil at Andrew Lewis. Richie Cannaday, who plays Dill, attends Cloverdale Elementary School.

If you've ever wondered if kids in Norway really eat reindeer meat, or if another country's flag is red, white and blue like ours, you might get answers to these and other questions at Highland Park Magnet School and Learning Center's social studies fair.

Hosted by pupils in grades four and five, the fair will feature displays of projects about countries around the world. Pupils, dressed in their nation's native costumes, will share their own travel brochures, salt-dough maps, recipes and fact books.

The fair takes place today at the school, 1212 Fifth St., SW, in Roanoke, from 1:15-2:30 p.m. The public is invited.
